ArtsHub McLuhan House Will Have Its Doors Open July 10th

Arts Habitat Edmonton invites you to step inside and explore ArtsHub McLuhan House (11342 64 St), an arts studio and gallery space inside a beautifully restored heritage home in the historic Highlands neighborhood.

On Friday, July 10th from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm, we open our doors to celebrate and highlight the space, its history, and the organizations and artists who bring the house to life.

Known as the childhood home of Canadian professor and media analyst, Dr. Marshall McLuhan, the ArtsHub plays an important role in providing space for arts, culture, community and preserving local history.

The Open House is free to attend and will begin at 1:00 pm in the McLuhan House Parlour with a musical performance by the McLuhan Trio, a chamber music program led by Ukrainian-born, multi-faceted violinist, Dr. Viktoria Grynenko.

Throughout the day, visitors will have the opportunity to explore the beautifully restored heritage home and view the Dr. Marshall McLuhan Interpretative Display dedicated to his life, research, and relationship to Edmonton. The gallery contains private family photos donated by Michael McLuhan on behalf of the McLuhan Estate. (Photo and video are NOT permitted)

Our 2025/26 artist in residence at the McLuhan House Garage Studio, Natesa Medlicott-Kappo will have the studio doors open for you to meet the artist and see what she has been working on! Natesa is an emerging Nehiyaw artist and Indigenous rights activist from Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation in Treaty 8 Territory, Alberta, Natesa’s interdisciplinary practice incorporates the traditional Nehiyaw art practices with textile, video performance, and mixed media work.

We will close out the evening with a 6:00 pm front porch concert by the West End Hot Club, an ensemble organized by clarinetist Don Ross. This collective pays homage to the swing era of 1930s and 40s Paris, performing a repertoire that captures the spirit of Django Reinhardt through a blend of gypsy jazz, classic jazz standards, and unique original compositions.
