Responsibilities of Arts Habitat Board Members
This is a volunteer position. As a Board member, you will play a vital role in advancing the mission of Arts Habitat. Members are expected to:
- – Be familiar with Arts Habitat’s policies and strategic plans to guide decisions and contributions.
- – Prepare for and attend regular Board meetings, having reviewed reports and materials in advance.
- – Serve on committees when required, contributing time and expertise to specialised areas.
- – Responsibly represent Arts Habitat, acting as an advocate for creative spaces and the arts sector.
- – Follow conflict of interest procedures, ensuring transparency and integrity in all actions.
Board Governance
Our governance principles guide all actions of the Board:
Structure: The Board consists of a minimum of three Directors and a maximum of 12 Directors.
Strategic Leadership: The Board governs the Association in relation to its objects of incorporation, bylaws, and policies. All Board actions are taken during duly constituted meetings and focus on policies aligned with the Board’s vision and values.
Collaborative Decision-Making: Policies are debated thoroughly, ensuring Directors can express diverse viewpoints and reach consensus. Once a decision is made, the Board speaks with one voice, reflecting shared commitment to the Association’s mission.
Accountability: The Board determines its own structure, accountability, and tasks in the best interest of the Association.
What to Expect
Meetings: Six times per year, in person and/or online to accommodate diverse schedules.
Term Length: Three-year terms with a max of two terms; with flexibility to ensure balanced turnover and continuity.
