Part 1) Professional Arts Organization – General Criteria

The criteria used are aligned with funders and artist support organizations across Canada. All applicants must answer the General criteria, and meet all 5 Mandatory criteria.

Part 2) Professional Arts Organization – Mandatory Criteria

The following criteria will be used to assess an arts organizations professional eligibility to license office space across The Habitat. The criteria used are aligned with funders and artist support organizations across Canada. In order to qualify as Professional Arts Organization, the applying organization must answer the General criteria and meet all 5 Mandatory criteria. Please respond to all that apply and answer the questions as necessary.

Part 1) Professional Artist – General Criteria

This criteria helps determine your Professional Arts Membership. The following criteria will be used to assess the professional eligibility of artists, allowing them to license studios and office space across The Habitat. The criteria used are aligned with funders and artist support organizations across Canada. All applicants must answer the General criteria, and meet a minimum of 1 of the 3 Mandatory criteria and 1 of the 3 Supporting criteria.

Part 2) Professional Artist – Mandatory Criteria

All applicants must meet a minimum of 1 of the 3 Mandatory criteria.

Mandatory Criteria – Training

Has received professional training, either in an educational institution or from a practitioner or teacher recognized within their profession, OR is in the process of becoming an artist according to the practice of the artistic community in their respective discipline. Methods of non-traditional training, as well as apprenticeship/internship, would also be considered.

Mandatory Criteria – Peer Recognition

Supporting Criteria – Presentation

Has presented their work to the public by means of exhibitions, publications, performances, readings, screenings, digital media channels, or by any other means appropriate to the nature of their work.

Supporting Criteria – Promotion

Devotes a reasonable proportion of their professional time as an artist to promoting or marketing their work, including but not limited to, presenting themselves for auditions, seeking sponsorship, agents or engagements, or similar activities appropriate to the nature of their work.
