Sonic Play School -Deep Listening with Raylene Campbell

New Music Edmonton, Arts Habitat Edmonton, McLuhan House invite you to Sonic Play School, a new series of public events featuring hands-on, any-level skills workshops and mentor-led discussions.

Join us in welcoming Raylene Campbell to the next Sonic Play SchoolThursday, June 14, 6:30-8:30 PM at McLuhan House (11342 64 St, Edmonton). She will introduce the group to to the concepts and practices of Deep Listening as developed by the great musicians and philosopher, Pauline Oliveros.

Pauline Oliveros herself described Deep Listening as “listening in every possible way to everything possible to hear no matter what one is doing.” The practice includes bodywork, sonic meditations, interactive performance, listening to the sounds of daily life, nature, one’s own thoughts, imagination and dreams, and listening to listening itself. Plus it’s a ton of fun.
Raylene Campbell is an extremely active and much sought-after Edmonton sound artist. Her creative process involves explorations of acoustic ecology, psychogeography, computer interactive technology, and audience interactivity in both performance and installation environments. She is a certified Deep Listening instructor.

Sonic Play School sessions are self-contained, so newcomers are always welcome!

Come along and be part of a fun group using sounds creatively. You can join in, or just hang out with us and listen. This is a great chance to be part of a new community for discussion, listening to records, watching films, and above all, making music in an informal, non-judgemental atmosphere.

Participation fee is “pay what you can.”
