McLuhan House will be Rockin!

Please join us in celebration of Black History Month with a house concert at McLuhan House! Special guests, Mustafa Rafiqand Riwo Egor will bring their talents in singing and electro-acoustic guitar with live electronics to create a soundscape and participate in a follow-up discussion about the music community of Edmonton.

Artist Bios

Mustafa Rafiq

Mustafa Rafiq is a multidisciplinary artist based in Treaty 6 land in Edmonton, Alberta. Their primary focus recently has been in exploring feelings connected with diaspora, gender expression and alienation through sound art, performing solo under Family Injera. They also promote shows under Sweaty Palms which is, at its root, an organization based on amplifying comfort in community through uplifting artists whose work is not as easily heard. Description McLuhan House will be Rockin! Mustafa Rafiq and Riwo Egor bring their musical talents and live electronics to create a soundscape for McLuhan Monday. They will not only entertain us with thier songs but also follow-up with a discussion about the music community in Edmonton. You can join us for this celebration of Black History Month by reserving your spot. Artist Bios Mustafa Rafiq is all about community—the diversity, the reflection, and the ideas. His aim is to connect artists that have a fire burning under them. He wants everyone to feel something when the music hits them. Even though Edmonton can be difficult to be a musician in, Mustafa thinks there is a charm to our city. Mustafa Rafiq Riwo EgorRiwo Egor is originally from Delta State, Nigeria and raised in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. She is currently a student at the University of Alberta. She moved to Edmonton in 2015 and began as lead singer in an Afro-fusion music band called MelAfrique the following year.
