Background:

ArtsHab is a community of like-minded artists living and working in their studios on the third floor of a split use (commercial/residential) building in Downtown Edmonton.

In many ways ArtsHab is similar to any other apartment building. Each renter has their own contained suite with an open studio floor plan, a kitchen and bathroom.

The difference between an apartment building and ArtsHab is we are also a community of artists and friends. Our hallways serve as a public gallery where we host exhibition openings and other events. ArtsHab is a vital and active participant in the greater Edmonton art scene.

Participation is key to any healthy community and while it is up to each individual as to how much they wish to participate, ArtsHab is seeking individuals who are looking to take an active role in developing a vital ArtsHab community.

ArtsHab gives preference to professional artists (We define a professional artist as someone who has specialized training in his or her field (not necessarily in academic institutions), who is recognized by his or her peers (artists working in the same artistic tradition), who has a commitment to devoting more time to artistic activity if financially feasible, and who has a history of public presentation.)

Tenants are juried in. Applications are short listed to four or five who will be interviewed by the current ArtsHab tenants. This gives everyone the opportunity to chat about their art and get to know each other a bit. We are looking for people who are serious about making art and who have a strong need for a place to create it.
